RBT Competency Assessment
ASCEND TO EXCELLENCE
Before becoming a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT®), you must pass the Initial RBT Competency Assessment. The RBT Competency Assessment is administered by a qualified Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA®) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA®), when permitted under BACB requirements. This assessment evaluates your competency across the core skill areas outlined in the current RBT Test Content Outline (3rd ed.). Your competency may be evaluated through methods such as role-play, interview, or client-based observation, when appropriate. Our assessments are conducted virtually for convenience and accessibility.

This assessment must be completed after your 40-hour training but before you submit your final RBT certification application, and no more than 90 days prior. It’s conducted by a qualified BCBA® or BCaBA® supervisor and involves demonstrating your abilities through various methods.
